Coffee, bananas, shrimp, avocados and textiles are some of the most important products that Honduras exports to the world. However, the main destinations are the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, Mexico, El Salvador and Guatemala.
In the first month of 2024, exports from the Honduran maquila industry amounted to 389.8 million dollars, experiencing an increase of 11.9% (equivalent to 41.5 million dollars) compared to the previous period. This result marked a significant change by reversing the downward trend that had been observed throughout 2023.
To satisfy the needs of its population and its different industries, the Central American country also imports a variety of products, including fuels, oils, vehicle parts, metals, and construction machinery.
In this last industry, the forecast is very positive due to the impetus given by the private sector which is building shopping centers, stores, and mixed projects for multiple uses. Mostly located in the northern part of the country.
In figures, private construction increased by 16.1%, due to the increase in commercial construction, expansions, and remodeling. This growth is also reflected by the financing of the banks’ resources and the investment fund for residential projects in some areas of the country.
In general terms, since the last decade, Central America has been experiencing a significant change in the construction landscape. Projections development and investment proposals continue to mark a very positive path for the region. Public works projects also influence this vision of progress.
Costa Rica is given a good prognosis, however experts assure that it still needs to be handled with caution. El Salvador has been classified as the most dynamic and the one that is embracing construction trends in its favor. And Honduras stands out for its focus on improving the housing sector. This has allowed it to generate more than 200,000 jobs by the end of 2023
